Notes: Church services began in Charleston in 1854 with services being held in private homes or in the room over I.B. Mitchell's grocery store. In 1865 the parish purchased a church located on Madison Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets, but the building was destroyed during a storm three years later. For the next four years, services were held in the courthouse. The cornerstone for the second church was laid in 1872 on the site of the former church. The current church was dedicated on October 10, 1899.
